GWL Cheer Camp Reminders ...

Reminders:

The girls need to be at the HS parking lot by the tennis courts on Thursday by 9:45 am we are leaving at 10 am sharp. Each girl may bring ONE bag ONLY due to space limitations. We are asking that each girl bring a snack (and for the most part the girls signed up for a specific snack or drink already) to share with their roommates. Also ... each girl needs to bring enough money to cover 2 lunches and Julie and I are taking care of the other meals. Also there are snack shops in GWL so if the girls want a treat or a special item they need to bring money for that as well (optional). The NCA camp offers a merchandise area and if the girls want to buy a shirt or other momento they will need money for that as well (optional).

Please remind your cheerleader that our rooms will NOT be available till 4 pm but we have access to the waterpark immediately so they need to have any waterpark items within reasonable reach. I don't want everyone to have to unpack their entire bag to reach their swimsuit.

Also, I will have basic medical supplies available such as Tylenol, Tums, etc. but I must have permission from a parent to administer any of these items. If you want to send along a permission letter with your "camper" that is fine, otherwise I will need verbal permission from you via phone call. I just want to make this clear that I canNOT hand out Tylenol or any other over-the-counter medication without your permission.

The girls will have ample time to call home between trainings and classes but I will NOT allow phone calls during the actual camp session time. You have invested a lot of money for your daughter to learn and the less distractions the better.

Also, I have reminded but I could use some extra support on this one that the girls must have their nails cut below their fingertips and any jewelry must be removed during camp. Some girls have peircings and jewelry that they seem to not be able to remove ... this is NOT permitted and will NOT be accepted.

I am sure I forgot something but for the most part I think we are ready to go and have a great time! Thank you for your support and I will take lots of pictures to share with all of you. We have the best squads and I am so excited to see how they flourish at camp.

CHEERS,
KIM KING
SHS Head Varsity Cheer Coach :)

Practice notes

for Tuesday, July 12th ...

Both squads stretched and jumped together. We passed around the Lavendar Festival sign-up sheet work schedule. This is your opportunity to earn money towards your uniform, so I suggest you work as much as you can.

We split for stunting.

Varsity rehearsed Cadence dance with music and got into a "rough" football formation.

JV reviewed cheers.

We did a few Zumba dances and ended with the try-out dance (perfected). :)

Reminder: MANDATORY parent meeting tonight at 6:30 in the cheer room to discuss camp details and sign medical waiver.

Also ... we are meeting at the HS weight room tomorrow at 9 am!! We will then head over to the field, dress accordingly. Also ... bring your poms to practices from now on. I will bring all the newly ordered poms tomorrow!! :)

Practice will resume Tuesday, July 12th in the CS gym and Wednesday and Thursday we will practice at the football fields (weather permitting). If the weather doesn't cooperate we will pick an alternate site because the CS gym is being used for the Lavendar Festival.

Attention ALL cheerleaders ...

Beginning Wednesday, August 17th practices become MANDATORY!!! This means that you are required to be present at all practices from August 17th on. If you miss a practice it will effect your eligibility to cheer at the games. We have so many girls coming and going during the summer (which I understand to a point) but everyone was aware when joining cheer that summer practices are a requirement. **Someone today actually said they didn't know practices started tomorrow!!! When I have posted it since tryouts!!** AHHHHH

We have a HUGE performance the 1st day of school, Varsity and JV both have games before school starts, and we need to learn over 100 cheers, several dances and a performance routine. The only way this can be accomplished is if EVERYONE attends practice. Again, if you miss several practices this may cut you from the performance and/or the first few games (if you don't know the cheers and stunts).

Above all our games are a performance. We have to be prepared. It isn't fair to the girls who have perfect attendance and work hard if Julie and I allow someone on the field who is lost and doesn't know the cheers and chants.

Please mark your calendars on August 17th with the mandatory practice date. Typically we take the week off after cheer camp but looking at everyone's vacations schedules this might not be possible. So many girls are gone throughout July that I foresee having to add on Monday practices and even maybe extending a few days to 3 hours.

One other note ... I am struggling to get ahold of several girls. If you get a text from me ... please respond, especially when my text indicates a response. I can't "stalk" 32 girls!!! I also recommend you check the cheer blog DAILY!! Camp money was due today and I am still missing payment from 8 girls!! I cannot pay the balance until I receive all the monies owed. They will only hold our reservation without full payment for so long. Please try to be responsible, do your part and let's work as a team!! I absolutely appreciate all the girls and parents who are diligent in their duties ... it really makes my life so much easier!!! So thank you to those people who paid on time for camp, call me with any changes, and keep track of schedules, etc. :)

Thank you,
Coach Kim

PS I cannot wait to have Captains ... :) I could use the help!!

Feels like Christmas ...

because the Fed Ex man just delivered 2 big boxes of cheer gear!!! So excited!! Can't wait to see all the goodies that are yet to come. Yeah!!

Today was the cheer garage sale and for the most part everyone did very well!! I would like to say, "thank you", for all the community support! A HUGE applause to all the parents and cheerleaders who participated. I just absolutely LOVE this group of cheerleaders and parents. I have had more generosity and support than EVER. Also ... I can't say thank yous without mentioning Julie Leaf, our new JV coach. Julie is beyond stellar!! She is motivated, positive and even remembers all the cheers and dances from her days as a SHS cheerleader. I am so excited to have her onboard. :) So ... thank you!!!!!

Reminders:

Camp balances are due this Monday, June 27th. I will be at the cheer room at 11:00 am to take payments. If you are unable to meet me then please call or text to make special arrangements. I absolutely have to get your payments on Monday because I have to send in the money Tuesday.

Practice starts Tuesday, June 28th from 9-11 am. We will be in A3, Christy Ditlefsen's room, to start the morning off so please meet us there. A3 is behind the main HS office, facing the baseball fields. We also have practice Wednesday and Thursday from 9-11 am in the cheer room!!

Have a great weekend! CHEERS!!!! :)

Latest and Greatest

Few things ...

The garage sale is right around the corner. Please be there at 7 am to set up and don't forget you must bring your own money for change. You are responsible for selling your items and removing any unsold items. The money you earn the day of the garage sale will be turned into Kim King and it will be applied to your camp balance. I will have receipts available for those interested.

July 13th Diane Lawrence is hosting another Arbonne Spa Party/Trunk Show from 6-8 pm at her residence. Although our last Spa Party fund raiser for camp was mellow (thank you Coach Julie who invited most of the attendees) we still managed to make a HUGE profit. I highly encourage you to invite people to this event. You can use the money earned towards your food for the 1st day of camp.

Also, we did receive a random donation that will be applied towards purchasing camp food for everyone on the 1st day but I still recommend you bring some spending money. Also, I ask that everyone bring ONE snack item (granola bars, etc.) to share with the girls in your room. If everyone brings something to share, a little bit of spending money and we grocery shop with the donated funds we should be good to go.

Our 1st day of practice is next Tuesday, June 28th and we will be watching 2 cheer videos in A3. Please be there by 9 am. Anyone who is late will have to run lines the following day at practice. So please be responsible. Also, if you have any days that you will be absent from practice I NEED to know, so please email me asap. Also, remember to wear proper attire to practices; tennis shoes, work-out clothes, hair up, no jewelry, etc. No bellies showing, rears, etc. we are athletes and you must dress accordingly. :)

Just to give everyone a head's up. We are going to have a Hawaiian theme day at camp so start looking for items now. Be creative, check goodwill. Please don't spend a lot of money on this. It is just for fun!!

Last thought ...
I really want to organize several events/activities throughout the summer ... purely SOCIAL for everyone to attend. So if you have any ideas or want to host or help organize an event please let me know. For example; roller skating in PA, a day at the lake, sleep-overs, etc. Let's make this a fun summer!!

Reminders

Don't forget the Arbonne Spa Party fund raiser is tonight from 6-8 pm at Christy/Kaylee Ditlefsen's house. The money earned from this event will go towards your camp balance. Let me know if you need directions or any information. Also, some girls took catalogs and order sheets so if you sold anything please let me know. If you took a catalog and didn't sell anything please return the catalog to me asap.

I need EVERYONE to promote the upcoming Cheer Garage Sale on Saturday, June 25th from 8-12. Email, text, call all your friends. We really need this to be a success. Remember that parents MUST be at this event in order to use the funds earned towards camp. Set-up is at 7 am in the HS cafeteria. You are responsible for your items, any change you need, pricing or not, etc. Also, any items that do NOT sell need to be removed by you immediately after the garage sale. Aspire Academy has reserved the cafe at 1 pm so we have to be out of there by then. For some girls this is their opportunity to raise some much needed money for camp so please tell everyone you know to come support cheer. Also ... I thought if anyone wants to bake treats and sell them that would work too.

Let me know if anyone has any questions!!

We will be starting practice for the summer on Tuesday, June 28th from 9-11. Remember if you are in town you MUST be at practice. If for some reason you cannot attend practice you MUST contact me. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

I am currently generating a camp packet full of crucial information, schedules, medical release forms, etc. and also making copies of the cheer lists, rosters, etc. ... basically lots of information to hand-out. I need to know via email or text if you have dates that you will be out of town this summer. If you have already mentioned it ... still send me an email. It can't hurt to tell me twice.

See you all soon!!!! :)

Room lists for GWL Cheer Camp

Before I post the lists I would like to remind you that a.) I did the best I could with the requests given to me and b.) I could not grant every request.

Sabrina asked me who she was rooming with and I couldn't remember at the time and she graciously answered, "well it's okay if I am not rooming with any of my close friends that just gives me the opportunity to get to know the girls in my room." I couldn't have said it any better and I absolutely LOVE that "frame of mind". I know we naturally have our close friends but we are a team and we need to behave like a team. So ... remember even if you didn't get everyone you requested to room with you may just make new friendships that will last a lifetime. (Ahhh)

Room 1:

Bailey R.
Chantelle H.

Room 2:

Don't forget the balance is due June 27th. The total per person is $368.56 so make sure you subtract the deposit amount that you paid and submit a check to me by June 27th. I have to send in the balance on the 28th so you CANNOT lag aka be late on this payment. NO EXCEPTIONS!!! :)

Reminder: Arbonne Spa party Thursday, June 16th from 6-8 pm at Christy/Kaylee Ditlefsen's house. You just need to invite people to the party and/or collect catalog orders. I have invitations if you are going to participate. I also have a few catalogs and order sheets. I need 2 parents to volunteer to assist the Arbonne Rep at the party, just in helping others fill out the order forms, etc. (nothing major). The money earned from whomever you invite that orders (30%) goes towards CAMP. Please encourage orders to be made by check or in cash so that the Arbonne Rep can immediately give you your profit earned.

Don't forget about the garage sale Saturday, June 25th from 8-12. Parents MUST be present in order for the money to be applied towards camp. The girls may NOT be directly involved in raising the monies earned from the garage sale.

I have plenty of drivers for camp, so no need to volunteer. I am getting so excited about camp. I really appreciate all the parents (and some girls) coming up with the funds for camp. I know it's expensive but it's so worth it. I am thinking that for next year we will try to figure out a less expensive option ... if one exists. :) I am going to do my research. I just know from experience that the camp at GWL is exceptional and I cannot wait for the girls to find out for themselves. :) So ... again ... THANK YOU!!!!

Latest information!!

Okay ... so here is the latest:

We have scheduled the Arbonne Party (spa like party) for Thursday, June 16th from 6-8 pm at Christy Ditlefsen's house. Christy has graciously offered to host and supply the snacks and drinks!! The money earned from your sales can be applied to camp since the girls are NOT doing the majority of the work. I will have invitations and some catalogs with me this Thursday, June 9th when we meet up for you to pay the camp deposit. If you invite someone and they cannot attend the party then they can order items from the catalog or go online and write down the items they want and order from you. **They cannot order online but can view and get the item numbers online. **

I need several parents ... at least 3 to volunteer to drive and pick up to Great Wolf Lodge. Anyone interested please get back to me asap because there is paperwork that must be completed in order to have you approved as a driver. You need to have a current drivers license and proof of insurance. I will have the paperwork with me on Thursday so please ask for it. Julie and I will each drive a school van that holds 7 girls each and I already have 1 parent volunteer and their car seats 6. That leaves us with 10 girls who need a ride to camp. I would like to have at least 3 approved parents just in case we need a back up driver. Better to be safe than sorry!!

Also ... if you have garage sale items but are NOT interested in participating in the cheer garage sale please let me know. We have a few girls who would love to earn money but due to their circumstances (not living at home, etc.) have nothing to sale. If you know of anyone who has items to sale please contact them and see if they would be willing to donate items so that these girls can participate. :)

Thank you to all the girls who attended the Taco Bell fund raiser ... it was a huge success. Remember community service is a big part of being a cheerleader and I expect everyone to participate in ALL future events. Only 14 girls showed up to TB but they did such a great job that we really impressed the owners. So ... cheers to you 14 girls!!!

Thursday, May 26, 2011

Upcoming Events:

June 2nd from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at Greywolf Elementary painting faces. I need at least 6 girls for this event. Wear either your jersey or spirit colors if you don't have one.

June 4th from 1 to 3 pm meet at Taco Bell in your uniform or spirit colors with poms if you have them.

August 6th (don't have a time yet) to perform the Fight Song and a few cheers. This is a 20 year SHS reunion and should be a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, we cannot participate in the other 1st Responder Event on August 13th because we will be attending camp. :(

Thank you!! I also need everyone to RSVP for these events!!

Parade Info

Meet Saturday, May 14th at Ryser and Cedar at 11:00 am. The parade starts at noon. We are #38 so we should be done fairly quickly. Returning cheerleaders wear your uniform and everyone else where cheer attire or purple and gold.

Fight song:
For every Sequim High Wolf is hard to beat,
He's got that certain thing you can't defeat,
He's got that fighting urge to win this game,

Now if we win or lose you know,
We've got that good ol Sequim High pep and go,

Hope I got that all correct ... trying to sing and type isn't necessarily my talent ... ha ha!!!

Also, check your email for an update on the Lavendar Festival!!! We will not be doing this fund raiser this year. :(
Make sure you have all your paperwork turned into me and let's have a great day Saturday!! I bought candy to hand out and so just come ready to spread some cheer!!!!

Thursday, May 5, 2011

Reminder

This Saturday, May 7 from 10:30 to 2:15 is the Kid's Fair at Carrie Blake Park. Please wear something cheer associated or purple and gold. We will be face painting ... so come with your creative juices flowing ... ha ha.

Monday, May 9th from 3-5 we have practice. We will be going over parade details, making some signs for the car wash, finishing up any incomplete paperwork, receiving car wash tickets, paying the uniform deposits and approving the detail order sheets for each individual uniform order. So ... if you are NOT participating in the parade you can still attend the practice Monday since that is just a small portion of what we will be accomplishing that day. See you all then.

On a side note ... I have been texting, blogging, emailing, facebooking, etc. and still haven't heard from some of you. Please understand that there is 32 of you and only 1 of me ... so help me out and respond to the texts, emails, etc. It is your responsibility to check the blog for updated information. If you have a preferred method of contact (email, text, phone call, etc.) let me know and I will make it a priority to use that method to relay messages to you.

Thank you!!

This year our banquet, themed 'Movie Premiere Night', is on March 22nd from 5-8 pm in the SHS library. We will celebrate a great season with food catered by Dynasty Restaurant. The cost is $15 per cheerleader/stuntman and that also covers the participant's immediate family members.

The movie being shown, filled with various 2010-2011 memories, courtesy of Carmen Wiker will be accompanied by traditional theater treats and popcorn. There will be a photo booth available to all attendees in order to capture lasting photos of the friendships made throughout the year ... so feel free to bring your camera.

Also ... thank you to Sabrina, Lavee, Andrea and Virginia for the prompt, 'YES, I can cheer', following the Lady Wolves Friday night victory. Although we didn't get enough girls to attend and had to cancel I really appreciate the quick response and the dedication to cheer at the last minute. I know it's not ALWAYS convenient but it's our duty to support the teams and so please be ready to cheer this upcoming week. THANK YOU!!!!

A HUGE thank you to the Varsity girls who cheered at the Friday and Saturday games. I had girls who changed their work schedules, sacrificed sleep, food, and sanity to come and cheer for the teams. I cannot begin to express how proud I am of all of you. Just when we thought our season was coming to a close ... only to find out that we have several games ahead ... can be mentally, emotionally and physically exhausting ... so a BIG HUG and HIGH 5 for having a great attitude and for making it happen!!! :)

P.S. If traveling on the bus I recommend you bring; food, water, money, WARM clothes, and/or a blanket, travel pillow, music, sense of humor, etc. These game nights can result in LATE nights so be prepared to be home late. Trust me the travel pillow and BLANKET ... were PRICELESS!!!!! :)

You will ride the bus over to PA from school and I haven't been given the departure time yet so I will let you know as soon as I know. You will remain at the gym for the remainder of the Varsity games. I anticipate the bus being back to the Sequim high school around 9 pm. If you decide to ride home with a parent or sibling ... Practice 3-4:30 pm

Friday, Jan. 4th:

UPDATES:
I sent out statements and a newsletter so please if you haven't received yours let me know. I really need your emails so that I can send the next newsletter via email. My email is: surfnberries@yahoo.com. I ask that each of you send me an email so that I can add yours into my contacts. If you don't have email text me so that I know to mail you a copy of the newsletter. I also need your parent's emails. I want to include them as well.

The Youth Cheer Camp was a success and we couldn't have accomplished that without everyone's help. I am so proud of all of you for getting up early (ugh!) and giving your all to the day and the event. I have received many feedback comments and they all expressed how much we touched their daughter's life. You girls influence these children in such a way that the parents feel the positive impact and are grateful for that. :)

After the game on Friday I had a individual come up to me and comment about the lack of respect that some of the JV cheerleaders showed during the playing of the National Anthem during at the start of the Varsity game. She remarked that there were several girls who were at the top of the bleachers who were talking and being loud. She was very disappointed in the fact that not only were they cheerleaders but that these girls were not showing proper behavior during a moment that should be respected and valued. BUMMER!!!! :(

I told her that I expect more from my cheerleaders and that I would take this opportunity to educate you all on the appropriate behavior that should be shown during the anthem and/or the pledge of allegiance. Remember it's NOT really about being a cheerleader but more about being a US citizen and showing pride and respect for our country. Although because these girls were identified as cheerleaders she decided to pursue the issue. Unfortunately ... we are judged more harshly because we are cheerleaders and I wish it wasn't that way but ... it is. I have had several people approach me recently about various moral "issues" in regards to being a cheerleader. All I can say is ... at the end of the day, cheerleader or not, we are people and we make the same mistakes as everyone else. Let's just do our best to be respectful, responsible, and make good decisions. Let's take this comment and learn from it. You all know that I am constantly re-evaluating things and doing my best to make adjustments when necessary and I just ask that you do the same. :) Swaaaweeet!!

Wednesday, January 26:

Practice for both JV and Varsity from 3-4:15 pm ... we will do some stunting practice AND Zumba. We need to get back to conditioning and stunting ... so come prepared to dance, stunt and have some fun!! :)

Friday, January 28:

: Dress up for school and wear your uniforms to the game, hair up with bows. Please be at the gym by 4:45 pm and REMEMBER you MUST attend the Varsity game at least until after the half-time performance with the "youth cheerleaders".

Varsity: Dress up for school and wear your uniforms to the game, hair up with bows. Please be at the gym by 6 pm to help warm-up the "youth cheerleaders" in the auxillary gym.

Also: If you ordered a "Youth Camp T-shirt" you can wear it for the half-time performance ... if you didn't just wear your uniform and smiles.

I want to again thank you all for your attendance Saturday at the Youth Camp. I know it was really early and I just want you all to know that I am grateful for your support to the community. Already parents are calling and FBing me about how great the experience was for their child(ren). So ... give yourselves a pat on the back for a job well-done. I have the totals for the Gold-cards and will be finishing up the last bit of statements tomorrow. Look for your UNIFORM statements in the mail this week. I am getting a bit nervous for some of you who not only have significant balances but haven't made ANY payments. Just to remind you ... you CANNOT try-out if you have a remaining uniform balance ... so don't wait till the last minute ... PLEASE, it stresses me out!! :) I would be heartbroken if someone couldn't try-out because they didn't pay off their previous uniform balance. Okay, well let's have a great week and I will continue to shower you all with compliments, happiness and encouragement. :) Is that better?! Ha Ha ... couldn't help myself. :)

Schedule for January 17-22

Monday, January 17 ... NO SCHOOL

TUESDAY, January 18th:

School day attire:
Varsity and JV must wear skirt, liners and football jerseys to school. Due to the cold weather you may wear your warm up pants UNDERNEATH your skirt, if you choose. Please wear the designated cheer shoes as well. NO EXCEPTIONS!! Due to the lack of participation on previous "jacket and jeans" day and "dress up" days ... I am forced to have all cheerleaders in uniform for school on game days.

JV game starts at 5:15 pm and EVERY JV cheerleader must be at the gym 30 minutes prior ... so don't be late!!! So ... that means by 4:45 pm you must be at the gym ... READY to stretch. If you are at the gym at 4:45 but in the bathroom doing your hair ... that doesn't count!!! You must be in front of the bleachers stretching at 4:45 pm. Hair up with bows!!! NO BOBBY PINS!!

Varsity game begins at 7:00 pm and EVERY Varsity cheerleader must be at the gym 30 minutes before the start of the game ... so that means 6:30 pm. Same thing ... NOT in the bathroom straightening your hair or doing your make-up!! Hair up with bows!!!

WEDNESDAY, January 19th:
Optional practice ...
to learn the youth cheer dance from 3-4:30 pm ... at the latest. All Captains are required to attend this practice!! Please if you are able to attend this practice we can use all the help we can get and we can plan a cool "stunting show" for the youth cheerleaders. :)

FRIDAY, January 21st:

School day attire: Both JV and Varsity are required to DRESS UP!!!!!!!!!!! From now on if you do NOT participate in the dress up days or whatever the designated school day attire is you must attend a "special practice" designed for those individuals who are NOT following the game day attire. I do not expect you to go buy clothes to dress up for school however ripped jeans are absolutely NOT acceptable. Nice pants, a skirt, etc. is considered dressing up ... so just put some pride into your "dress up" decisions and look nice ... PLEASE!! Otherwise, we will wear our uniform to school every game day ... so that's the alternative. :)

JV game begins at 5:15 pm and you again must be at the gym by 4:45 pm ready to stretch. Please wear your uniform and hair up with bows.

Varsity game begins at 7:00 pm and you must be at the gym by 6:30 pm ready to stretch. Please wear your uniform and hair up with bows.

SATURDAY, January 22nd
Youth cheer camp in the HS Cafeteria from 8-12. Please be there at 7:30 am and plan to stay at least till 12:15 pm to help with clean up. Wear your polos for the Saturday camp. Bring water and a snack for yourselves. Unfortunately, we have NOT had the attendance participation that I was hoping for so again if you know of ANYONE interested have them contact me asap. Unless we have more kids sign up we won't make a profit to apply to uniform balances. I consider this event a community service opportunity ... however, I was hoping to have a big turn out and be able to apply some funds to the uniform balances but I need your help!!

On a brighter note ... both JV and Varsity performed STELLAR at the games against PA. The half-time performances were awesome. Several people from the games commented on our sharp uniforms, our boundless energy and someone even mentioned that we are the best cheerleaders in our district!! I am beyond proud of all of you. I know that back to back games are extremely demanding and I just wanted to let you all know how great you did this past week. REMEMBER ... in between cheers/chants ... unless you are rallying you MUST stand in "attention". It's amazing how professional we look standing in "attention" and it keeps us from being fidgety. :)
